Life in the Young Marines is about learning how to lead your peers and knowing when to follow.
After recruit training, Young Marines have opportunities to earn rank, ribbons, attend local and out-of-state trips, and go to various leadership schools or SPACES events.
During their enlistment, Young Marines will be exposed to various assignments. All Young Marines will be called to participate in a leadership and teaching position. There are opportunities to take charge of Young Marines in drill, PT, classes, volunteer activities, or special trips held throughout the year.
There are also different positions that a Young Marine can hold - leadership positions like Platoon Sergeant, Squad Leader, and Team Leader are directly in charge of a few other Young Marines. These leaders usually run the daily schedule.
Other positions such as Training NCO, Recruit Instructor, Recruiter, or Young Marine Birthday Ball NCO are also leadership positions but are aimed at specific areas of the program. For example, the Birthday Ball NCO is a chance for a Young Marines to plan a large birthday party which includes a ceremony, cake, and dinner. Recruit Instructors train brand new Young Marine Recruits and the Training NCO coordinates the events that happens each year.
These are just some of the jobs and opportunities Young Marines could perform during their career. Young Marines will rotate through jobs as needed to become better leaders and are able to do every job in the program if they qualify for it.
During the summer months, Young Marines can attend the Young Marines National Summer Programs of: Adventures, Challenges, Encampments, and Schools (SPACES). Some of the exciting SPACES events include: Junior Leadership School, Senior Leadership School, Advanced Leadership School, the Great American History Adventure, Space Camp, National Flight Academy, Drill and Ceremonies School, Orienteering, Sailing, Cowboy Experience, National Outdoor Leadership School, SCUBA and Master SCUBA Diver Schools, and the National Encampment.
